Backyard Workout

©2010 begin with a Sunny Outlook

If you're thinking that you don't have time to get in a little exercising, you can get a mini workout by doing all those chores out in the yard.

12 Ways to Get Exercise in the Yard

1) mow the lawn with a push mower (non-riding),          unless you have just too much lawn
2) weed while kneeling or sitting, then relocate            by standing up (use a kneeling cushion for              comfort)
3) de-thatch the lawn with a bow rake
4) sweep the driveway and walks with a broom

  5) plant and maintain a vegetable garden
  6) trim the hedge with a hedge shears (good exercise for your arms)
  7) clean the porch or deck with a stiff bristle brush (don’t use a power washer on wood – it         will tear up the wood fibers)
  8) build a trellis
  9) clear out and clean out the garage; build or install storage shelving; then reorganize items       as you put them back
10) wash the car weekly
11) wash the outside of the windows on the house
12) play a little one-on-one soccer or basketball, or toss frisbee, with the kids
