Spring Forth

©2010 begin with a Sunny Outlook

The arrival of Spring adds a sense of renewal, a chance to enjoy the early blooming bulbs and the fresh warm breezes. Get out and start to enjoy the great outdoors ...

Yay! Spring is here!

And it always signals its arrival weeks before its actual calendar date. Many of us have already been enjoying, in our yards, the sight of the early blooming tulips, daffodils, and, of course, the crocus, that often blooms surrounded by snow. These spring bulbs, with their fresh, delicate green leaves popping up through the soil, reaffirm that the great outdoors is renewing itself after a long winter’s rest. The soil is warming and the air is fragrant.

All of those plans that were designed and developed for this years outdoor projects are soon to be implemented. Many trips to the local lumber yard, hardware store, plant nursery, and garden store will soon be on everyone’s Saturday to-do list (right under unpacking all the summer clothes).

Spring sports are gearing up for another season. The kids are busy with outdoor practices, several times per week, for soccer, lacrosse, cross country, baseball, and softball; and spring concerts are in the making, too. Our communities will be sponsoring events, like Easter egg hunts at the park, and parades and other activities for Memorial Day. All these events usually are in need a helping hand from parents and members of the community.

Spring is also the time of year to restart your outdoor exercise routine, whether walking, bike riding, or whatever. Hopefully, everyone has kept up with indoor exercise during the winter. The clocks have been turned ahead for daylight savings time and that allows us to do more things outdoors in the evening like bike riding with the kids and getting a head start on the spring cleanup in the yard.

Well, getting back to the yard and gardening, for most northern areas of the country, it is always advised to wait until the risk of frost is passed before planting summer annuals. But in the meantime, there are cold tolerant annuals, like pansies and violas, which can be planted in planters or beds to add to the spring color of the tulips, grape hyacinth, daffodils, and forsythia.

There is a line from a favorite movie that goes – ‘I am blessed with work’. Beyond an outside job, work is anywhere from taking care of your family to submerging yourself in a hobby or community work. However much you are enjoying having on your plate, we wish you a happy and healthy Spring!
