Sweet Summertime
©2010 begin with a Sunny Outlook
It’s here! We wait all winter long for it. We so eagerly anticipate summer, that we start it before its calendar date of June 21. Once the calendar rolls around to May 30th (Memorial Day), we happily declare it is sweet summertime.

Splash!
MEMORIAL DAY, WITH ALL the reverence of its purpose, is the unofficial start to summer, its springboard, so to speak. Back in the day, it also signaled the day you could fashionably start wearing white - shoes, belts, shorts, purses (oh the days of fashion’s do’s and don’ts)!
Everyone’s gardens are full of petunias, geraniums, hydrangeas, impatiens, and more, blooming to their little hearts content to create a fabulous backdrop to the outdoor events you have planned for the summer. And speaking of plans...
There are things to do and plans to make. Places to go and people to see. Summer is just bursting at the seams with activity. Don’t you just love it! Vacations, backyard BBQ’s, outdoor theme parties, swim lessons and swim meets, kids off to camp, teaching the little ones to ride a two-wheeler, falling to sleep with the windows open is a summertime treasure (no humidity, of course), cleaning the patio or deck, DIYer projects in the yard, weeding, and then more weeding (get the kids to help), watching the rabbits eat the petunias (hey!), and the list goes on. But don’t forget to relax and have your morning coffee on the back porch, at least on the weekends!
Summer is the stage for events big and small. Graduations, weddings, Flag Day, Fathers Day, the 4th of July with all the fanfare, parades, and fireworks it so richly embodies, swim championship meets, backyard gatherings with family and friends, neighborhood games of Kick the Can (be sure to introduce your kids to this game if they’ve never played it – we had so much fun playing it when we were kids!), Labor Day celebrations, fun and more fun, all the way to the last day of summer on September 20. Make sure you get your fill of summer, whatever it be!
At begin with a Sunny Outlook, we have ideas for outdoor projects, and things to do in the backyard with the kids. We also have a Helpful Garden Links section for you to check out – it may help you with questions regarding the plants in your yard, and the birds, too!
We wish you a safe and happy summer. And don’t forget the sunscreen :)
